I wonder if those with, shall we say, alternative opinions or those groups or individuals (remember NatWest / Farage) that are particularly problematic for the US Democrat / Labour / Pro EU parties will be uniquely targeted? The estimated fraud / overpayment recovery is pathetic but just THINK of the juicy financial data that can harvested, analysed, possibly SHARED with other UK Gov depts or indeed other state agencies….
My “art” brain struggles to follow all of your content but I appreciate so much the work that you do to help us understand what is going on in terms of legislation, what yo look out for, what yo attempt to raise awareness about and push back on. Thank you.
Anyone who has worked in the community visiting families know that some of them who claim benefits are very very good at making it pay. But there are many genuine claimants who struggle to know what they can claim. This bill will not address these issues. Plus as you point out it is state surveillance by a back door. If the Tories were doing this the labour party would be in mock rage.
I've recently been reading the Substack articles of Stephen Baskerville where he's covering the sexual revolution, breakdown of families, govt intrusions, poverty, and the welfare state. He claims that the welfare state is the root cause of the above problems, and I'm inclined to agree with him. Social problems, so I understand, used to be dealt with by families, stronger communities, Christian charities, and friendly societies. People were also encouraged to help themselves and each other. The overhaul of the welfare state, the National Insurance Act, Family Allowances Act, and the NHS, all came about soon after the end of WWII. Wars enable resets. With such huge numbers of people on welfare and regularly using the NHS, it's hardly surprising that the govt now finds reason (or excuse) to crack down on benefit fraud. This new bill, with and a huge overreach of powers, is quite consistent with the whole social services sector anyway. The theft of children and the lucrative fostering industry, the 'theft' of the elderly (and their assets) from their families by exploiting the MCA2005, and the intrusion of LA staff into the lives of home educating families. I'm even inclined to believe that, if it wasn't for all the hundreds of thousands of people leaning on welfare benefits and services, there would have been far fewer people taking notice of the BS propaganda of 2020/21, but they did, and now the welfare numbers are at new heights. Vicious circle. The welfare state is capable of infantizing those who are not genuinely in need. I have friends on benefits who manage to run a car, buy new clothes, and live a fairly normal life without struggling. Certainly, they could do part-time work or rely on family. One friend is on maximum PIP, runs two cars, has a newly fitted kitchen, and goes on skiing holidays. I don't understand this. Particularly when, in contrast, I have another friend of many years who has been a paraplegic since being a teenager and is in a wheelchair. He is Not on maximum PIP and he worked until he retired at 60 years old. He doesn't like being dependent on anyone any more than he has too. If the welfare state was limited to severe cases only, there would be no need, no excuse, for any umbrella surveillance of our bank accounts, and they would not be getting away with the increasing intrusions into all areas of our personal lives.
Surveillance, control and end of privacy is the end game, they will use every back door they can to disguise it. "Big Brother" will eventually be watching our every move.
The ICO have raised concerns and many commentators have said that regulatory and other obligations will be broken if the bill passes into law. But I'm sure the Govt will just amend all relevant pieces of other legislation to enable it! After all, they have all the tools to do so

You've nailed the real purpose my friend......
How to remedy this situation springs to mind🤔🤝👍
This is a very good idea. I do a lot of campaigning, but it's hard to keep up with all the fag-packet legislation they spew forth on a daily basis.

Bravo, intéressante initiative…

How does this fit with the data protection act , could there be a case to seek readdress through this🤔
