The first thing that occurred to me reading your article was remembering how quickly, only a few years ago so many people were only too eager to slam their palm against the big red button marked 'fascist.' Almost like they were just waiting for an opportunity.
It was something that really caught me out when I, naively, thought that having a different opinion was merely that, a different opinion.
So if that same kind of 'nudging' were applied to assisted dying where could we end up and how quickly might we get there.
Well, a quick look at the stats and we find Canada euthanized 1018 people in 2016. By 2022 it was 13,241 and the total to that point was just shy of 45,000. Doubtless '23 and '24 will break more records.
And apparently requests for MAiD are increasing by an average of 28% a year.
That slippery slope is beginning to look like an oiled up ski jump!
Yes I think this is a point that people miss. What happens is that stuff like this gets normalised and anyone against it gets marginalised.
Also, we have such a small number of people travelling abroad in the UK for assisted dying, that we should really all ask the question why is this being pushed so hard now.
In Canada a Covid jab injured man has just been accepted for MAID. That might give us some clue perhaps?
"While advocates argue that MAID offers autonomy and choice, these choices are often made in contexts of desperation, coercion, and systemic failure." With the current state of our NHS and social services in the U.K there will be a rich feeding ground for euthanasia . Vulnerable chronically sick people who are not having their physical, emotional or financial needs met will be easy prey to thinking their situation is hopeless. What is labelled as the individual wanting to die can be induced by many external factors causing distress, pain, desperation and depression which sends them down a path that can be avoided with the proper treatment and support. I have no faith that these avoidable external issues would be addressed with diligence, it is indeed a very slippery and frightening slope.
Canada is getting close to Nazi Germany. There’s a bunch of Hitlers followers in government. I think every one of them should be fired and made to pay restitution to all victims of their poisoning with RNA products. Start first with Tredeau

I cannot disagree with anything you have said. Assisted dying, imho, will be used as an alternative for properly funded decent care, in the future
Have you seen this on another Substack re MAID in Canada? Horrific!
